The current developments in electromobility and the rapidly growing field of battery production require completely new contact solutions. Thanks to a high degree of expertise and experience, Feinmetall has achieved a leading role in all questions of high-current contacting issues.
Contact solutions up to 600 A
The new modular designed contact block HC01 allows applications with up to 600 A continuous current. This contact block was developed especially for contacting prismatic cells and pouch cells and can be equipped with sense contacts and/or temperature sensors according to customer requirements.
Contact solutions of cylindrical cells up to 100 A
Especially for contacting cylindrical cells the high current block HC02 was developed. This block has three spring-loaded scratch contacts and one sense pin, it allows currents up to 100 A.
Coaxial high current probe up to 300 A
Especially for contacting during the formation of battery cells, for incoming inspection and for the end-of-line test, the coaxial high-current probe HC04 was developed. It is also of modular design and can be equipped with two sense pins, with temperature sensor or with a connection for compressed air cooling.
Scratch principle for low contact resistances
An important basis for optimal contacting at high currents is an extremely low contact resistance to the test item. This is realized by a scratch contact developed and protected by Feinmetall, which causes a defined scratch movement on the contacted surface and thus achieves best results especially with contaminated or oxidized surfaces. The scratch solution is particularly suitable for contacting battery cells, as the typical aluminum current collector on the cathode side can be reliably contacted. In particular, the occurrence of a wetting current effect can thus be avoided. This ensures reproducible good contacting results.
Validation of the results by an independent institute
The outstanding results regarding the current carrying capacity of our contacts were confirmed by an extensive investigation at the ISEA Institute of the RWTH Aachen University. In particular, the high effectiveness of the scratch principle on difficult contact surfaces was confirmed.
Spring-loaded temperature sensors
For monitoring the temperature directly at the conductor, Feinmetall offers a wide range of spring-loaded temperature sensors. These sensors are so slim that they can even be integrated in various contacting units, for example in the contact block up to 600 A or even in coaxial high-current contact probes with an internal pin.
