Contact force

Contact force describes the force with which a Contact Probe presses against the Test Point. In Spring Contact Probes, it is generated by the integrated spring and is crucial for a stable electrical connection. A sufficiently high contact force reduces transition resistance, penetrates oxide or contamination layers, and ensures reliable signal or current transmission, while simultaneously limiting mechanical stress on the Test Point.

FAQ

In Spring Contact Probes, the contact force is generated by an integrated spring that presses the Plunger against the Test Point.

Insufficient contact force can lead to unstable measurements, while excessive forces can damage the Test Point or components.

Contact force is typically expressed in newtons (N) or gram-force (gf) and is an important parameter in the design of Test Fixtures.
