Spring characteristic curve
The spring characteristic curve describes the relationship between spring force and spring travel. It shows how the force of a spring changes when the Contact Probe is compressed during the contact-making process.
For Contact Probes, the spring characteristic curve is important because it determines the force acting on the Test Point, solder pad, or contact area. It thus influences contact quality, the mechanical stress on the device under test (DUT), and the ability to penetrate residues or oxide layers.
The Progressive Series utilizes increased spring preload, so that a higher force is applied upon initial contact with the DUT, while the nominal Spring force can remain unchanged. This allows for more effective penetration of contaminants and supports stable contact conditions.
